Aachen is the westernmost city in Germany and, in addition to its outstanding location on the tri-border region of Germany-Netherlands-Belgium, it also offers an array of architectural masterpieces just waiting to be marvelled at. An absolute highlight is a visit to the 1200-year-old Aachen Cathedral, the site of the coronation of 30 German kings. The cathedral has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1978. The magnificent town hall in the historical heart of the city of the former imperial palace of Charlemagne is also worth a detour.
